  • About Us

"Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus" (Col. 1:28).

  • Welcome

You are invited to visit our Sunday worship services. We are a non-denominational, evangelical, Bible teaching church that desires to be a place of truth for those who are spiritually hungry and hurting.

Besides our Sunday services, you may also want to take advantage of various opportunities to study the Bible in an informal way such as home Bible studies, free literature, and study materials, and our church website.

Every local church has its personality and we are no exception. Christ Bible Church is family-oriented and ethnically diverse. We want to be true Christians, not just on Sunday, and therefore pray often for the renewal of our love, compassion, dedication to God, and love of Christ, by the power of the Holy Spirit. Since Jesus Christ is central and supreme in our Church we value those activities that deepen our relationship with Him such as the verse-by-verse teaching of the Bible, prayer meetings, Bible studies, fellowship, and ministering to one another. We welcome visitors.

The chief purpose of Christ Bible Church is to glorify God. This is to be accomplished through the promotion of His worship, evangelizing the lost, and edification of the saints. The scriptures teach that we are to be salt and light and that we are to propagate the Gospel by all legitimate and scriptural means possible. This starts with each person's individual relationship with God, then with our families, fellow members of the body, and finally to the ends of the world, as the Lord may lead and enable. Moreover the church is to promote holiness of life among the members and to edify itself in love - to the end that God will be glorified in and through His church.

We are a Christ-centered, Bible-believing church that seeks to exalt Christ through our lives and through the preaching of His word. "For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your bondservants for Jesus’ sake" (2 Cor. 4:5).

We wholeheartedly hold to the Five Solas of the Reformation (Grace Alone, Faith Alone, Christ Alone, Scripture Alone, to the Glory of God Alone).

    The Ministry of the Word

    Add a subtitle here

The preaching of Pastor Joe Jacowitz is marked by a strong commitment to historic, Reformed Baptist theology and a direct, expository, and deeply urgent style. Having served as the pastor of Christ Bible Church in California since 1990 and as the president of FirstLove Ministries, he preaches from a deeply rooted commitment to Sola Scriptura (Scripture Alone).

Several key themes and stylistic elements define his ministry:

    1. Verse-by-Verse Expository Preaching

Rather than relying on topical or self-help style messaging, his sermons generally center on a meticulous, verse-by-verse examination of the Biblical text. He focuses on uncovering the original context of a passage and drawing out intense, direct applications for modern life, family structures, and church order.

    2. Core Theological Focus

His messages heavily emphasize sovereign grace, the doctrine of regeneration ("The New Birth"), and the necessity of personal holiness. Central to his teaching is the person and work of Jesus Christ, frequently returning to what he calls "The Scarlet Thread"—how the cross of Christ redefines every aspect of the believer's life, from inner speech to the structure of marriage and the home.

    3. Clear, Structured Organization

His sermons are known for being highly structured, often broken down into distinct, sequential points that guide the listener logically through a topic. He frequently focuses on practical ecclesiology (church structure), exploring topics like the specific roles and character requirements of church leadership. For example, he has described biblical deacons as "the shock absorbers of the church," illustrating a practical approach to how community structures should function.

    4. Direct and Solemn Tone

Reflecting a sober view of eternity, his preaching style carries a distinct weight and intensity. He doesn't shy away from sobering biblical warnings, heavily emphasizing personal accountability, the gravity of sinful speech, and the reality of the soul's reckoning before God. His style is conversational yet uncompromised, aiming to challenge and equip the listener rather than simply entertaining.

Does pastor Joe provide practical application in his preaching? If so, can you describe it and give examples:

Yes, practical application is a core component of Pastor Joe Jacowitz’s preaching. He does not treat theology merely as an academic exercise; rather, he explicitly connects deep doctrinal truths to everyday choices, personal conduct, and family life.

His application is typically direct, punchy, and structured, forcing the listener to look in the mirror. He frequently focuses on how a person’s internal spiritual state manifests in their outward, daily behavior.

Here is a breakdown of how that practical application is delivered, along with specific examples of how it touches different areas of life:

    1. Concrete Examples and Visual Analogies

Rather than speaking in vague, abstract terms, he often uses vivid, real-world analogies to make a practical point clear and memorable.

Example ("The Shock Absorbers"): When teaching on church structure and the roles of leadership, he has famously compared biblical deacons to "the shock absorbers of the church." The practical application here is highly specific: a leader's job is to absorb friction, resolve complaints quietly, protect the unity of the community, and keep the engine running smoothly so that conflicts don't cause a breakdown.

    2. Guarding Internal and Outward Speech

A recurring practical theme in his ministry is the serious stewardship of the tongue. He emphasizes that speech is the ultimate indicator of the heart's true condition.

Example: His application often challenges listeners to audit their daily conversations. He confronts habits such as gossip, backbiting, and harsh language in the home, warning that ungodly speech destroys personal integrity and fractures families. The practical takeaway is an urgent call to strict self-discipline over how one speaks to a spouse, children, and peers.

    3. Blueprints for Family and Community Structures

He frequently uses historical and biblical frameworks to provide a step-by-step blueprint for how the Christian home and church community ought to function.

Example: In a series on family life, his application doesn't just stop at "be a better parent." Instead, he breaks down the distinct, practical roles of a husband and wife, detailing how a father should lead family devotions, how parents should consistently discipline with love, and how to protect the household from negative cultural influences.

    4. Integrity and Personal Ethics Programs

His preaching often extends into structured initiatives to help individuals navigate deep personal challenges and ethical struggles.

Example: He has initiated personal ethics and integrity programs within the community designed to give people a structured, practical path forward. The sermons tied to these initiatives don't just point out sin; they provide sequential, actionable steps on how to repent, establish accountability, replace destructive habits, and rebuild a broken life on a solid foundation.

Ultimately, his preaching operates on a clear premise: doctrine always drives duty. If a sermon explains a high theological truth, the application will almost always demand a matching, concrete change in the listener's immediate, daily life.

  • Statement of Faith

"All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work" (2 Tim. 3:16-17).

We believe the Bible to be divinely inspired, infallible, inerrant, and authoritative Word of God.

We believe there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

We believe in the virgin birth of the Lord Jesus Christ, His deity, His sinless humanity and perfect life, the eternal all-sufficiency of His atoning death, His bodily resurrection, His ascension to the Father's right hand, and His second coming which is the blessed hope of the believer.

We believe that justification (salvation) is an act of God, based solely on the righteousness and atoning death of Jesus Christ, and that becoming "born again" by the power of the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential for salvation - that is by grace alone through faith alone.

We believe in the Lordship of Christ over His church; the observance of the ordinances of baptism by immersion for believers and the Lord's Supper.

We believe in the eternal blessedness of the redeemed in heaven and the eternal punishment of the unsaved.
